Q: How do I get spousal maintenance or alimony in Texas?
A: A Court may order spousal maintenance or alimony in Texas if the spouse seeking maintenance shows: (1) marriage of ten years or more; (2) the spouse does not possess the skills and experience necessary for gainful employment; and (3) the spouse lacks the means to support himself or herself. A qualifying spouse may receive maintenance for no more than three years after the divorce.
