Texas Automobile Insurance Requirements

Texas drivers are required to maintain minimum levels of insurance for their vehicles. This type of insurance is called liability insurance, the proceeds from which are available to the occupants of the other vehicle, not you, in the event you cause an accident for which you are liable. The minimum amount of coverage you are required to carry is $20,000 for bodily injury or death of one person in any one accident, $40,000 for bodily injury or death of two or more persons in one accident, and $15,000 for property damage in one accident.

Medical Payments or personal injury protection (PIP) is another form of insurance coverage that is available to the driver and/or his passengers for injuries sustained in an accident regardless of fault.

Uninsured or Underinsured Insurance coverage are other forms of insurance coverage available to you and/or your passenger when a negligent driver either does not have insurance or does not have adequate levels of coverage to fully compensate you for your injuries.

Collision Insurance provides for the replacement or repair of your vehicle after an accident regardless of fault. This type of coverage typically requires a deductible for which you are responsible.
